Taplow Open Water Swim, a local swimming club in Maidenhead, is excited to invite swimmers to their upcoming open water swimming event at Taplow Lakeside. Offering sessions throughout the summer on Wednesday mornings, Thursday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as limited sessions during the winter, Taplow Lakeside provides a fantastic opportunity for swimmers to enjoy the beauty of open water swimming.
At Taplow Lakeside, there are two main courses available for swimmers. The Swim Secure course, spanning 400m, offers a challenging route for experienced swimmers, while a 100m course closer to the shore is perfect for beginners or those who prefer to stay within reach. To ensure the safety of all participants, Taplow follows the NOWCA safety system, requiring swimmers to wear a NOWCA wristband. However, for those who are curious to try out the lake before committing to NOWCA, a trial swim is allowed.
To register for a NOWCA wristband and book swims, swimmers can easily download the free ACTIO app on both Android and iPhone. Membership with NOWCA costs £15.00 per year, providing access to the wristband and insurance. Once a member, swims at Taplow Lakeside can be conveniently purchased through the app. Swimmers have the option of purchasing 10 swim credits for £60.00 or single swims for £6.50. For any additional information, swimmers can visit nowca.org.
Taplow Open Water Swim understands that open water swimming can be both exciting and a bit intimidating, particularly for newcomers. To support those who may want some assistance, a swim buddy can be provided to swim alongside them during their initial swims. Additionally, tow floats are supplied to offer extra support and safety.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, Taplow Open Water Swim has certain rules in place for open water swimming at Taplow Lakeside. It is mandatory for all swimmers to be registered with NOWCA and to scan in and out of the water using their safety wristband. New swimmers are allowed one trial swim before joining NOWCA.
To enhance visibility and safety, swimmers are required to wear brightly coloured swim caps while in the water. It is important to note that professional medics wearing green caps are not permitted.
For swimmers who choose to swim without a wetsuit, a waiver form must be signed, acknowledging the associated risks.
To prioritise safety, all swimmers, regardless of swimming ability, must wear a tow float.
Taplow Lakeside welcomes children aged 8 to 11 with open water swimming experience to swim in the lake, but they must be accompanied by a responsible adult who remains within 2 meters (6.5 feet) of the child at all times. It is essential to maintain a ratio of 1 adult to 1 child for their safety.
Children aged 12 to 17 with open water swimming experience are allowed to swim in the lake as long as an adult is present on-site and keeps the child in direct sight while they are in the water. Both adults and children are required to wear a tow float at all times.
Taplow Open Water Swim looks forward to welcoming swimmers of all ages and abilities to their open water swimming event at Taplow Lakeside. It promises to be an exhilarating experience surrounded by the stunning scenery of the lake. Join in on the fun and make memories in the open water!
