The club welcomes archers of all levels, from beginners to experienced shooters. The club's outdoor range is over 200 yards long and is accessible to members 24/7, allowing them to practise and shoot at distances up to a maximum of 100 yards (or 90 metres).
Members of OOBAC Archers have the opportunity to shoot a variety of different bows, including traditional English Longbows, Horse bows, Flat bows, Recurve bows, Compound bows, and Crossbows. The club values inclusivity and actively encourages all classes of archery within its community.
The club boasts experienced members as well as Archery GB licenced coaches who are passionate about passing their knowledge on to newcomers. In line with this, OOBAC Archers regularly runs beginner courses, led by their own qualified coaches. These courses are open to individuals of all ages and abilities, with equipment provided for use during the course. Upon completion, participants will have a good understanding of barebow and freestyle shooting, basic technique, safety procedures, and etiquette.
They will also receive a certificate of attendance, which is an acceptable proof of completion for joining a club and shooting safely in a club environment.
For those interested in trying out archery before committing to a course, OOBAC Archers offers free taster sessions on the first Sunday of every month. During these sessions, participants will be provided with a bow and given an introduction to the basics of shooting. The club aims to be inclusive and will provide support for individuals with disabilities; however, it is recommended that someone able to offer assistance, such as a caregiver, accompanies them.
In addition to outdoor shooting, OOBAC Archers also offers indoor shooting sessions from October to March on Friday evenings at the Whittlesey Indoor Bowls Club Complex. These sessions provide an alternative during colder or wet weather conditions.
The club operates within the guidelines set by Archery GB/ GNAS and has a Children and Vulnerable Adults policy in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Juniors under 18 are welcome to participate in the club's courses but must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the course and all club shoot days/nights.
OOBAC Archers is dedicated to providing a supportive, friendly, and enjoyable archery experience for all its members. Whether you're a seasoned archer or a complete beginner, the club warmly welcomes new members and encourages them to join this fantastic sport.
