For those with long hair, it is recommended to tie it up in a ponytail or bun during class. Piercings should also be removed to prevent injuries.

When it comes to attire, practitioners of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu traditionally wear a Gi, which is a uniform consisting of a heavy cotton jacket, reinforced drawstring trousers, and a belt indicating rank/grade. No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, on the other hand, is practised wearing rash guards, spats, and shorts, similar to clothing worn during MMA training.

During classes, sparring sessions are conducted to enhance skills and techniques. Practitioners are paired up with a partner and engage in live fighting environments for five minutes. It is important to tap your opponent if you find yourself in an uncomfortable or painful position or lock, as BJJ is a non-striking martial art.
