O Moana Nui Performing Arts is a dynamic Polynesian dance company based in Auckland, New Zealand. We specialise in teaching and promoting traditional drumming, songs, music, costumes, and event entertainment from the islands of Tahiti.
Our mission at O Moana Nui Polynesian Dance Company is to instil in the younger generation of today the importance of one's identity and the role it plays in today's society. Through songs, dancing, and music, our students can find placement, pride, and purpose. We believe that dance is a powerful tool for self-expression and personal growth.
Our highly trained and certified instructors have a wealth of experience in teaching and performing various styles and disciplines. They are dedicated to providing students of all levels with more than just dance classes but a unique experience in which they can grow both mentally and physically as dancers.
We offer two levels of classes for both male and female students. The “Honu” Green team is our beginners level class. It starts at ground zero, and no prior experience is needed. This class focuses on the basic foundations of Ori Tahiti (Tahitian dance) through movement, dance vocabulary, and song.
The “Moana” Blue team is our intermediate level class for students who have completed the “Honu” Green team and have passed the foundations assessment. In this class, students will be introduced to more advanced technique, skill, and execution of basics, vocabulary, and song.
Whether you're a complete beginner or have some dancing experience, O Moana Nui Polynesian Dance Company has a class for you. We welcome individuals of all ages and backgrounds who have a passion for dance and a desire to explore the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific islands.
