The spirit of Gyokunenkan Aikido and Japanese Martial Arts Studio, OMMA Budo is a vibrant and inclusive martial arts school located in Clarkson, Australia. Founded in 2016 by Brad Palmer, a dedicated Aikidoka with a 2nd Dan rank, OMMA Budo is deeply connected to the North West Tasmanian community.
Situated in Sulpher Creek, right on the stunning coastline, OMMA Budo offers a wide range of martial art and fitness classes for all ages and genders. The school takes pride in providing two styles of Aikido: Gyokushin Ryu Aikido (pre-war) and Yuishinkai Aikido (post-war). These two styles harmonise flawlessly, embodying the vision of the founder, O Sensei, for a harmonious world.
In addition to Aikido, OMMA Budo also offers OMMA classes, which stands for Open Mat Martial Arts. These classes bring together various forms of martial arts like boxing, kickboxing, karate, kali, ku fung, jiu-jitsu, groundwork, and weapons training. The focus is on cultivating practical elements from each art, creating a well-rounded and effective self-defence system.
For those who are more inclined towards fitness, OMMA Budo provides fitness classes tailored to adults and teenagers seeking to enhance their fitness levels and overall well-being. The training facility is renowned for its friendly and community-oriented atmosphere, promoting a sense of belonging and support for all participants.
Within the realm of martial arts, OMMA Budo offers a variety of disciplines. Aikido, founded by UESHIBA Morihei, is a highly refined self-defence system that emphasises maintaining control over an aggressor without causing physical or mental harm. It is an ideal choice for individuals who prioritise the legal and ethical implications of self-defence.
Karate, known as the “way of the empty hand,” focuses on strikes against specific points on the human anatomy. Due to the nature of these techniques, karate is taught as a complimentary art to students who demonstrate maturity and have attained an intermediate level.
Judo, founded by KANO Jigoro, is a safe and enjoyable modern form of Jujutsu. It combines standing projection techniques with chokes, arm locks, and ground controls. Judo is particularly suitable for children as it promotes physical activity while integrating ethical guidelines into sporting techniques.
For those interested in the art of the katana (Japanese sword), Kenjutsu offers advanced students a technical and historical perspective on the origins of many fundamental Aikido techniques. Precision, timing, and footwork are emphasised in this discipline.
OMMA Budo is proud to be affiliated with reputable organisations and continuously strives to deliver quality instruction in a supportive environment. The school offers a well-structured timetable to accommodate different age groups and skill levels, ensuring everyone can find a class suitable for them.
With classes for Young Samurai (ages 9 to 12), Adults, and a special Weapons class, OMMA Budo invites individuals of all ages to embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
Sensei Colin Niland, one of the core instructors, brings over 45 years of martial arts experience to the school. His diverse training background in Judo, Karate (Tang Soo Do), Kickboxing, Tae Kwon Do, and Yoseikan Aikido contributes to the unique blend of traditional arts offered at OMMA Budo.
