The Omakau Golf Club is a charming nine-hole country course nestled in the heart of New Zealand's South Island. Located far from the sea, it offers a unique and picturesque golfing experience. The course is bordered by the renowned Central Otago Rail Trail, the country's most popular cycling trail. While not completely flat, the course does not have any steep climbs, ensuring a comfortable playing environment for all golfers.
Each hole presents its own challenge and showcases breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, which includes the distinctive schist rock formations characteristic of Central Otago. Fortunately, these rock outcrops are not excessively present on the course, reducing the chances of your ball veering off in unusual directions.
The Omakau Golf Club warmly welcomes visitors, who can enjoy a round of golf for a green fee of $20. 00. Hire clubs and trundlers are available for $5. 00 each, and a golf cart can be rented for added convenience.
The club also provides a revised men's golf calendar for 2022, which can be downloaded from the website. The website itself is designed by Worsfold Software Ltd and hosted by Promote Dunstan Inc.
To locate the course, it is situated on Alton Street in Omakau, a charming town just 29 km (approximately 22 minutes) north of Alexandra. The club can also be found easily on Google Earth. The course layout can be viewed by selecting holes from the list on the left or clicking on specific holes on the provided map.
