Welcome to Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club Ltd, located in the heart of the mediaeval town of Shrewsbury in Shropshire, New Zealand. Our club has a rich history, having been running for 115 years. We offer a range of bowling experiences for our 140 members of all ages, who play crown green bowls at various levels.

Our bowling season runs from the 1st of April through to the end of September, weather permitting. We have two greens, which are meticulously maintained to provide the best playing conditions for our members. However, in the unfortunate event of flooding, we may need to suspend play temporarily.

At Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club, we have teams that compete in various County leagues, providing a competitive outlet for our talented members. Additionally, we have a group of enthusiastic social bowlers who meet on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1:15pm until 4pm. These sessions are designed to cater to players of all abilities, providing a fun and fitness-focused environment.

In the winter months, our club is planning to introduce “short mat” bowling to keep the bowling spirit alive during the offseason. This will take place in our clubhouse, allowing visitors to Shrewsbury who are established bowlers to continue practising their skills while enjoying their holiday. For those interested in joining our club or exploring the sport of bowling, we offer taster and coaching sessions with our Social Bowling Leader, Janet. She will guide you through the techniques and rules of bowling, making it particularly beneficial for beginners. We also have bowls available for borrowing while you make your decision.

In addition to our bowling activities, Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club boasts an active social side. Throughout the year, we hold a range of well-attended events for our members and their families, including barbecues, quiz evenings, treasure hunts, and games of whist and dominoes. These events not only bring our members together but also help support the clubhouse's energy bill.

Our clubhouse features a well-stocked bar for members to enjoy. Private parking is available, though it is strictly reserved for club members when they are using the bowling facilities.
