Founded in 1894, Old Scotch Football Club, also known as the Mighty Cardinals, is a prominent sports club in Melbourne. Originally joining the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) as “Scotch Collegians” alongside three other clubs, the club temporarily disbanded after the 1895 season. However, Old Scotch rejoined the VAFA in 1921 as the “Old Scotch Collegians Football Club” and has been continuously competing in the association ever since, except for the five years during the Second World War.
Throughout its history, Old Scotch has established an impressive record in the VAFA. The club has spent a remarkable 72 out of 88 years in the prestigious 'premier A' section, holding the record for the most appearances in this division. With nine 'A' Grade topships and three 'B' Grade leadingships to its name, Old Scotch has a rich tradition of success. While the club's last premiership came in 1978, Old Scotch remains committed to maintaining its competitive spirit.
In 2003, the club officially changed its name to Old Scotch Football Club and introduced its first women's team, the Old Scotch Stars, in 2018. As a testament to its longevity and enduring legacy, Old Scotch celebrated its centenary in 2021, marking a century of excellence on and off the field.
Over the years, Old Scotch has seen the rise of remarkable individuals who have left an indelible mark on the club. Notable figures include Hec Ingram, a long-term club president, Laurie Muir, a respected club captain, Ian Law, a former Hawthorn star and Brownlow Medal runner-up, and Euan Campbell, a former Melbourne VFL player. The club also boasts players who have represented the VAFA, earned All Australian recognition, and achieved remarkable feats such as Nick Hooper, who holds the record for the most club games played with 316.
Old Scotch Football Club takes pride in its rich history and tradition. The club's commitment to excellence and its resilient spirit have helped it maintain a strong presence in the VAFA. As it continues to evolve and grow, Old Scotch remains dedicated to fostering a sense of community and providing opportunities for players of all ages and genders to participate in the great game of football.
All Old Scotch Football Club teams proudly call Camberwell Sportsground, also known as McQueen Park, their home. Situated at 420 Camberwell Road in Camberwell, the ground serves as a vibrant hub for the club's training sessions and home games.
