Old School Wing Chun

Steve Lancey wanted to reach out and give everyone a heads-up about Old School Wing Chun in Wigginton, York. The school is all about teaching the straightforward and effective martial art of Wing Chun for self-defence. Steve, the Chief Instructor, has a pretty varied background in martial arts, so the classes are both practical and enjoyable.

Classes happen every Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at The Old School House in Wigginton, unless it's a Bank Holiday. They also have regular gradings and training events throughout the year. You can find all the details about class timings and prices on their website.

Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art known for its efficiency and effectiveness in close-range self-defence. You don't need to be super fit or rely on physical strength; the key is mastering techniques with hard work and dedication.

At Old School Wing Chun, you’ll learn three "empty hand" forms along with the wooden dummy, pole, and knife forms. They also use a unique training method called Chi Sau (sticking hands) which helps develop sensitivity, quick reactions, and awareness. This method allows students to safely practice techniques with partners and sharpen their skills.

For many, Wing Chun is more than just a martial art—it's a way of life. It can help with managing anger, channelling energy, and fostering humility and respect. Just remember, while it's a great way to develop personally, Wing Chun is also a very effective form of self-defence.
