Angling Society (OBAS) Fishing the River Great Ouse at Offord and Buckden in Cambridgeshire About Us.
Offord & Buckden Angling Society (OBAS) is a prestigious fishing club located in Saint Neots, Cambridgeshire. Established in the early 1800s, OBAS has a rich history and is deeply rooted in the local angling community. The club's name originates from the two picturesque villages where it operates, Offord and Buckden.
One of the club's most fascinating historical connexions is its proximity to the former Great Northern Railway Station at Offord. This railway station, situated just 100 yards from the club's water on the River Great Ouse, provided convenient access for anglers from both the north and south. Many longstanding members fondly recall their childhood memories of travelling on the train with their grandparents and fishing for Chub alongside the legendary angler, Dick Walker.
Today, OBAS boasts access to approximately seven kilometres of exceptional fishing on the River Great Ouse. Whether you prefer still water or a fast-flowing stream, a small intimate river or a wide, languid, and deep one, OBAS has it all. The diverse range of catches available include barbel weighing up to 11 lb, bream up to 10 lb, carp exceeding 30 lb, chub up to 7 lb, perch surpassing 3 lb, pike weighing over 20 lb, roach up to 1 lb, tench up to 5 lb, and zander weighing up to 7 lb.
OBAS prides itself on its inclusive membership policies and currently welcomes new members with open arms. Joining or renewing your membership is a straightforward process that can be completed both online and by post. The club offers various membership options to suit individual preferences and requirements.
For non-members and guests wanting to experience the exceptional fishing opportunities offered by OBAS, day tickets are available for purchase. Prices start at just 5 per day, and these tickets can also be conveniently obtained online.
To enhance the sense of belonging and club pride, OBAS operates a club shop where members can purchase a wide range of merchandise, including comfortable beanies and stylish winter jackets. By becoming a club ambassador and wearing the club logo with pride, members can showcase their dedication to the sport and the community.
In addition to providing excellent fishing opportunities, OBAS also organises matches throughout the year. Anglers can participate in these matches by referring to the comprehensive fixture list, match rules, and details on how to enter. These matches serve as exciting events where members can showcase their skills, connect with fellow anglers, and potentially win prestigious titles.
As the guardian of the section of the River Great Ouse in the parishes of Buckden and Offord Cluny, OBAS takes its responsibilities seriously. The club is a proud member of the Angling Trust and collaborates closely with the Environment Agency, actively participating in joint projects and regular work parties to maintain and enhance the local fishing environment.
OBAS is governed by a dedicated committee comprising passionate anglers who work tirelessly for the benefit of the members. Society officers, such as John Richardson (Chairman), Steve Mobbs (Vice Chairman), Ann Elliott (Hon Treasurer & Secretary), Maurice Mobbs (President), and Tony Elliott (Head Bailiff), alongside other committee members and bailiffs, are readily available to assist and support members whenever needed.
