David, the organiser, has a message for the sports community about the Oamaru Bridge Club. As an affiliated member of Otago Southland Regional Bridge, the club is situated in the picturesque town of Oamaru, New Zealand.
With its rich history and commitment to promoting bridge, David invites everyone to a vibrant environment suitable for all skill levels. The comprehensive programme at Oamaru Bridge Club includes events for beginners to advanced players, such as pairs, teams, and Swiss tournaments. Remember, competitions like the Crombie & Price, the M & J Geare 6-night Teams, and Friday’s March and August games have specific pair composition requirements.
David has ensured that the club has fair substitute rules. Substitutes must be declared to the director before the start of play, and they can’t be regular players in the same competition. Only the score from the first substitute played with will count, unless stated otherwise in the competition rules.
For those aiming for a promotion to the Silver Division, David follows specific guidelines. Bronze players must achieve an average score of 55.00 or more over the year, played on at least 10 nights (excluding team competitions), and with 5 or more different partners. The assessment for promotions happens on October 31 or after the last Championship Pairs round, whichever is later.
David encourages players not just to enjoy bridge but also to explore the scenic beauty of Oamaru and the region. Whether it’s adventuring around or visiting Central Otago's wineries, there’s plenty to do.
As part of the Otago Southland Regional Bridge, the club operates with a dedicated Regional Committee. This committee coordinates club activities, arranges tournament schedules, offers advice to clubs, and promotes bridge in the region. Although it doesn't organise bridge at the individual club level, it ensures the smooth functioning of bridge within the Otago/Southland region.
David's focus is on fostering a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Whether you are experienced or just starting out, Oamaru Bridge Club is the place to learn and enjoy bridge while appreciating the beauty of the Oamaru region. Come and join the community, and savour the joys of bridge with David’s guidance.
