About

NSWFFS is the acronym for the New South Wales Free Flight Society Inc, the official state body for Free Flight Model Aircraft in NSW. Free flight is the oldest form of model flying, offering enthusiasts the opportunity for fun and exercise in the open air. The society boasts a diverse range of model aircraft, including gliders, rubber-powered, diesel, glo-plug, and electric engine types. These models can be built from plans, kits, or purchased as ready-to-fly (RTF).

The NSWFFS has approximately 250 members, and their dedicated flying field is located at Richmond on turf farms off Bensons Lane. Members typically gather at the field on most Friday and Sunday mornings to fly their models. Guests are also welcome to fly at the field, provided they have the appropriate insurance.

The society is led by a committee consisting of various members with specific roles. Terry Bond serves as the President and Public Officer, while Aaron Booth takes on the Vice President role. Roy Summersby acts as the Secretary and Newsletter Editor, and Gary Goodwin handles the treasurer responsibilities. Other committee members include Barry Lee as the Registrar, Michael Towell as the Safety Officer, Mike Ward as the Chief Flying Instructor, and Phil Warren as the Scale Coordinator.

Warren Leadbeatter manages the society's Facebook page, ensuring members stay updated with the latest information.

As part of the society's rich history, the NSWFFS provides access to a comprehensive list of M. A. Australian Nationals from 1938 to the present. This list includes dates, locations, hosts, and various associated collectibles such as decals, cloth patches, and badges.

The society also offers links to official MAAA results, magazine reports, newsletters, contest booklets, and other memorabilia. High-resolution images can be downloaded and reprinted if desired.

For anyone interested in free flight model aircraft, the NSWFFS offers a vibrant community of enthusiasts, access to a dedicated flying field, and a wealth of resources and history. Connect with them on their Facebook page or reach out to any of the committee members for more information.
