Novo Flow Studio is a martial arts club located in Mayfield West, Newcastle, Australia. The studio specialises in the art form and combative game of Capoeira, which combines acrobatics, rhythm, music, fun, fitness, and martial arts. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art played to the pulsating rhythms of instruments such as the berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro.
At Novo Flow Studio, people of all ages and fitness levels, with or without any musical experience, can participate in Capoeira classes. There are no specific requirements or experience needed to start learning Capoeira. The classes are designed to cater to all levels of experience, allowing individuals to participate at their own pace and level.
During a Capoeira class at Novo Flow Studio, participants can expect a variety of activities. The class begins with a gentle warm-up to prepare the body for the movements involved in Capoeira. Technique practise follows, where participants learn kicks, transitions, and evasions that are fundamental to Capoeira. Acrobatics practise is also included, starting with simpler movements like handstands and cartwheels and progressing to more complex movements over time.
The highlight of the class is the “jogo,” the actual game of Capoeira, where participants play freely in pairs within a circle of people. The class concludes with a cool-down and stretching session. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to learn to play Capoeira instruments and traditional songs.
To start training at Novo Flow Studio, individuals can join at any time. It is recommended to wear comfortable gym or exercise clothes that allow freedom of movement. Loose or baggy clothing is discouraged as it can hinder upside-down and spinning movements. Participants can train either barefoot or with sports shoes, depending on personal preference.
To join the classes, individuals are required to complete a pre-training questionnaire available on the studio's registration form. This questionnaire ensures that the instructors have all the necessary information to make the participant's martial arts journey safe, productive, and enjoyable.
Novo Flow Studio offers a range of flexible payment options. The current fee schedule can be downloaded from the studio's website. The classes take place at Mayfield West Public School, located at 7 Gregson Avenue, Mayfield West, NSW 2304. The class times are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
