In 1994, Ken Gannon established North London Aikido to create a friendly environment for students to learn and practise Aikido.
North London Aikido teaches under the principles of the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Japan. This connection ensures students get authentic instruction from the Aikido World Headquarters. The training approach, technical syllabus, and grading are rooted in these traditional teachings.
Here, the focus is on non-competitive training centred around self-defence and internal energy development, known as ki. Techniques use circular movements and non-resistance to control and deflect attacks, promoting harmony over brute force.
Chief Instructors Ken Gannon and Linda McQuillan, both seasoned practitioners—Ken with a 6th Dan and Linda with a 5th Dan—lead the training. They bring decades of experience, having started their Aikido journeys in the 1970s and '80s.
North London Aikido is recognised by both the Aikikai Foundation, the Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, and the British Aikido Board, ensuring high standards and integrity.
New members are welcome, whether beginners or experienced martial artists. The club fosters an inclusive atmosphere for growth in Aikido. Additionally, North London Aikido offers Chi Kung classes, blending breath control, meditation, and gentle movements for a holistic approach to well-being.

For classes, a white cotton jacket and trousers (keikogi) are recommended, but loose clothing like sweatpants and a t-shirt are acceptable. Keep long hair tied back and nails short for safety. Remove or cover jewellery and follow the dojo etiquette demonstrated by senior members.
North London Aikido values tradition, respect, and harmonious training. Whether you're a seasoned martial artist or a beginner, join North London Aikido for a supportive environment to develop your skills in Aikido and Chi Kung.
