Who has years of experience in the sport. The course is open to anyone aged 11 and above, regardless of fitness level or previous experience.
The course takes place every Thursday from 7 pm to 8 pm at The Pitsford Road Sports Centre, Moulton College, Moulton. The first week serves as a taster session, allowing participants to try out various aspects of fencing and get a feel for the sport. Over the following seven weeks, the course covers the essential skills and techniques of foil fencing.
To participate in the course, individuals must book and pay online in advance. The cost of the course is 60 for adults and 40 for those aged 11-17, full-time students, individuals over 65, and anyone receiving Job Seeker allowance. Proof of eligibility is required. Please note that the payment is non-refundable, except in exceptional circumstances.
If a participant is unable to attend the course they've paid for, their booking can be transferred to a future course later in the year.
No specialised equipment is needed for the course. Participants are advised to wear loose trousers like jogging bottoms with taped or zipped pockets, trainers with non-marking soles, and to bring a bottle of water as the sport can be physically demanding. The most important requirement is an interest in trying something new and an enthusiasm for learning.
Upon completion of the beginners course, participants are eligible to join the club as full-fledged fencers. Coaches and experienced members of the club will be available to assist newcomers in further developing their skills and provide guidance in the epee and sabre disciplines. Additionally, new members will receive a substantial discount on their first six months of club membership, allowing them to fully experience the inclusive and supportive environment of the Northampton Fencing Club.
