Northampton Archery Club (NAC) is one of Northamptonshire's longest-running archery clubs. They welcome archers of all abilities and disabilities and strive to provide a friendly and inclusive environment for everyone. NAC requires all archers using their facilities, except beginners on a course, to be members of Archery GB.
The club offers multiple shooting venues throughout the year. During the spring and summer months, they take advantage of the outdoor range at Sywell Shooting Ground in Northants. With up to 12–13 targets and a maximum range of 100yd/80m, archers can enjoy shooting on Saturdays from April to October and on Tuesdays from May to the beginning of September. Pay-as-you-go shooting fees are available, with 3 per adult and 2 per junior.
In the winter, NAC moves indoors to the John Ashby Sports Hall at Moulton College in Northampton. They shoot on Saturdays from October to the beginning of April, from 9am until 1pm (pre-booking essential). The indoor venue features up to 10 targets and a 20yd/18m range. Again, pay-as-you-go shooting fees are available, with 3 per adult and 2 per junior.
NAC also offers outdoor shooting at the Boys Brigade Old Boys Rugby Field (BBOB) on St. Andrews Road in Northampton. This venue is exclusively for select members, and several targets at different distances up to 60 yards are left in situ throughout the year. The shooting fees for this venue are 30 annually, plus membership of BBOB (10), or a shooting fee of 3 per session.
Carlsberg Sports & Social Club on Old Towcester Road in Far Cotton, Northampton is another venue for NAC. They shoot on Wednesday evenings from October to March 2024, from 6. 30pm to 8. 30pm (pre-booking essential due to limited space).
The shooting fees for this venue are 3 for adults, 2 for juniors, and 10 for a family group, with an additional 50p for visitors. Up to 4 targets and a 13yd range are available.
It is important for archers to familiarise themselves with the general and specific rules that apply to each venue. Archers who are new to NAC are advised to contact the club's Secretary before attending to ensure a smooth experience.
NAC emphasises that they cater to all abilities and disabilities. There are no strict requirements for fitness or health to shoot at their club. However, they do request that anyone attending their courses or joining the club declares any health concerns they may have, as these conditions may impact their own safety and the safety of others at the club.
For those interested in staying updated on club news, NAC regularly updates their website. Some current news categories include 252 Awards, Achievements, AGM, Awards, Trophies and Medals, Beginners, and Club. Memberships for the 2023-2024 season are now due, and website updates are on the way.
Whether you're a seasoned archer or just starting out, Northampton Archery Club provides a welcoming and supportive community where you can enjoy the sport of archery.
