Balmain AFC is a proud club with a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1903 as a member of the NSW AFL. In recent years, the club has set ambitious goals to become a leading Australian football organisation in Sydney, catering to players of all levels of experience.
The club has had great success in the Sydney AFL, winning the leadingship in 1988, 1989, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2011, 2012, and 2014. With preseason training commencing on 14 November 2023, the club is excited to continue building on its success and strengthening social bonds within the community.
For those interested in joining the club, there are opportunities for men, women, girls, boys, and masters players. The club offers preseason training for men and women, providing strength and conditioning as well as skills sessions. The preseason training is open to both current and prospective players, allowing everyone to experience the club's rich culture.
The men's team is constantly recruiting new players, offering a chance for juniors to transition to senior football or for individuals looking to join a historic establishment. The club is particularly excited about the upcoming affiliation with the Glebe Greyhounds and Canada Bay Cannons, providing a clear pathway for juniors to progress in their football careers.
The women's team, known as the Balmain Women's Football Club, has a strong history as a foundation member of the Sydney Women's AFL competition. Although the team did not play in the 2021 season, they are preparing for a return in 2025. Additionally, the club established the first women's masters team in the state in 2022, offering social footy for women over 35. All women interested in playing are welcome to join for 10 games throughout the year.
For those over 35 who still have a passion for AFL or for those looking to try it for the first time, the Balmain AFC Masters team is perfect. The team competes in a range of AFL games throughout the year, including social games, scratch matches, and carnivals. They also participate in the Sydney AFL Masters Competition.
Excitingly, Balmain AFC is expanding its junior teams, forming under 19. 5 men's and under 20 women's teams for the 2024 season. This collaboration with local junior clubs provides a great opportunity for young players to develop their skills and continue playing footy in the Inner West.
