Nippers @ The Lakes, the junior program offered by Lakes Beach Surf Club in Budgewoi, is the perfect opportunity for children aged 5 to 13 to dive into the exciting world of surf lifesaving. This program is all about having a blast in the great outdoors while building confidence and acquiring valuable life skills and knowledge.
At Nippers @ The Lakes, we believe in setting children up for a successful future in surf lifesaving and other sports. That's why our program provides a safe and inclusive environment where kids can make friends, stay active, and thoroughly enjoy their time at the beach.
We've got a variety of age groups within Nippers @ The Lakes to cater to different skill levels and developmental stages. For the little ones aged 3 to 5, we have the adorable Little Rippers group. Then, there are the Nippers under 6 & 7, followed by the Nippers under 8 to 12, and finally the Rookies/Youth aged 13 to 17. Each age group focuses on specific activities and learning objectives related to surf safety and awareness. As the kids progress through the program, they even get the chance to experience some board training!
Before diving in, we want to make sure your child has suitable swimming abilities for water-based activities. So, a Junior Preliminary Swim Evaluation is available. Although it's not mandatory, it helps us determine the level of supervision required for children who don't meet the swimming skill requirements.
Nippers @ The Lakes takes place on Sundays, and we kindly ask participants to arrive at the designated times based on their age group. Safety is always our top priority, so in case of dangerous surf or extreme weather, such as a thunderstorm, Nippers sessions may be cancelled. Rest assured, we'll keep you updated about any cancellations or changes through our Facebook page or our convenient club app.
