Nippers, the national program specifically designed for 7-13 year-olds, is making waves at the Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club Vigilance and Service. With a focus on building friendships, staying active, and promoting beach safety, Nippers offers an exciting opportunity for youngsters to learn about surf awareness and lifesaving skills.
To ensure the safety of participants, it's highly recommended that children with limited swimming ability enrol in swimming lessons before joining Nippers. In fact, each season kicks off with a swim assessment as part of the first Nippers lesson. With limited availability, approximately 200 Nipper places are up for grabs annually, so be sure to secure your spot.
Parents and guardians play a crucial role in maintaining the program's continuity and affordability for families. Volunteers are not only welcome but strongly encouraged to get involved. If you want more information on the Nippers program, don't hesitate to reach out to the Junior Association Director.
Please note that Nippers registration is currently closed. If you wish to participate in the Apollo Bay Nippers, it's necessary for guardians or parents to be current members of the Apollo Bay SLSC and possess a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC). The good news is that the WWCC can be obtained at no cost for volunteers. To apply, renew, or update your WWCC, simply visit the provided link and list the Apollo Bay Surf Lifesaving Club and Life Saving Victoria as your volunteering organisations.
Curious about membership fees and registration details? You can find all the necessary information on the Membership page of the Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club website. And remember, the collection of Nippers kits for registration does not take place on Collection Day, so be sure to plan accordingly.
In order to support the Nippers program and keep it afloat, there are a couple of annual fundraisers to mark on your calendar. First up is the door knock fundraising drive on January 2nd from 4-6pm. Participating Nippers should proudly don their Nippers tops and wide-brimmed hats. Collection tins and maps will be available at the club rooms, starting at 4pm and must be returned by 6pm.
The fun continues with the highly anticipated carnival night on January 4th at 6pm. Secure your wristbands for this event online closer to the date and get ready for an unforgettable evening.
It's worth noting that the Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club, established in 1952, has been tirelessly dedicated to safeguarding beachgoers from ocean dangers along the breathtaking Great Ocean Road. In the event of any life-saving emergencies, be sure to call 000 for immediate assistance.
Finally, please be aware that parking restrictions will be enforced during the Nippers program to ensure the safety of pedestrians and provide ample outdoor space. For the bar operating hours, you can consult the Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club website.
