Welcome to the Newhaven Archery Club website! Newhaven Archery Club is a thriving and friendly archery club located in East Sussex, New Zealand. The club boasts its own outdoor shooting range at Firle near Lewes, providing members with access to archery activities all year round, regardless of the weather.
The primary goal of Newhaven Archery Club is the promotion of archery in all its forms. The club attracts a diverse membership, with members hailing from Brighton, Uckfield, Eastbourne, and other surrounding areas. Members of the club enjoy a wide variety of shooting styles and participate in various shooting and social activities throughout the year.
These activities include target archery, field and wood shoots, social events, and fun shoots. Additionally, Newhaven Archery Club has an active junior club with their own calendar of events, catering to the younger archery enthusiasts.
The main club sessions are held on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, with the junior sessions taking place on Wednesday evenings. However, due to the club's exclusive access to its own outdoor range, members are free to shoot whenever they please.
To join Newhaven Archery Club, all prospective members are required to have completed an Archery GB Safety course. This course consists of 12 hours of lessons spread over several weeks. Newhaven Archery Club offers this course at a cost of 60 per person during May/June each year. In the event that a prospective member has missed the club's course, they can complete the Archery GB Safety course at any affiliated archery club in the UK and bring their certificate to Newhaven Archery Club.
Following the completion of the course, prospective members can apply to join Newhaven Archery Club as a “full” or “associate” member. A full member is registered with the club as their main club, while associate members may belong to another club and use Newhaven Archery Club's facilities. Visitors with an Archery GB card can also join any session at Newhaven Archery Club for a fee of 5 per visit, with a maximum of six visits per year.
For individuals who have not completed their Archery GB Safety Course with Newhaven Archery Club, an assessment session will be conducted. During this session, individuals will have the opportunity to set up and shoot with their own equipment, following range commands. It is important to note that Newhaven Archery Club does not lend equipment for assessments.
Upon a successful application, new members (both full and associate) will be placed on a 12-signature probation period before gaining full access to the field and target equipment. Throughout this period, new members are required to attend designated sessions, currently held twice a week on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. These sessions allow committee team members to observe and assist new members.
