About
New Earswick Swimming Club, a mainstay in York since 1967, thrives under the leadership of dedicated volunteers passionate about teaching children to swim. This esteemed club, affiliated with Swim England and proudly SwimMark accredited, offers top-notch lessons and competitive training for young swimmers, all in a safe environment.
At New Earswick, the Learn to Swim programme is meticulously structured into 7 stages, each designed to build children’s confidence and competence in the water. These sessions, held at New Earswick pool, are fun and engaging, thanks to their games-based approach that keeps kids motivated and excited to learn.
Running for 48 weeks a year, the programme allows children to attend two half-hour lessons per week. The Learn to Swim Coordinator oversees each child’s progress, working closely with teachers and providing parents with a point of contact for any inquiries.
Children in the programme master various aquatic skills, from basic floatation and balance to advanced techniques like streamlining and aquatic breathing. To ensure the right fit, New Earswick Swimming Club offers free assessments to gauge each child's swimming level.
Upon completing the initial stages, young swimmers are invited to join the Competitive Coaching scheme. This includes four progressive coaching groups, where participants compete in local, regional, and national galas, honing their skills and showcasing their talent.
New members are always welcome. Interested individuals can contact New Earswick Swimming Club to arrange a free swimming assessment. The club believes swimming is a crucial life skill and aims to inspire a lifelong love of the sport while developing confident and skilled swimmers.
