Newbury Yacht Club, right in the heart of Reading, Berkshire, is the spot for sailing lovers. With ties to the Royal Yachting Association, the club has been bringing sailing fans together for over 50 years – they even celebrated their big 50th in 2019!
Ben and the crew at Newbury Yacht Club know how to keep everyone busy. They’re always planning fun water adventures, from weekend rallies in the Solent to yearly cruises to places like the West Country or even northern France. You wouldn’t think it from being in a landlocked area, but their fleet often hits double figures – that’s dedication for you!
But it’s not just about being on the water. In the winter, they host a series of talks at The Bowlers Arms in Wash Common. These are perfect for anyone looking to learn more about sailing or just wanting to catch up with mates over a pint.
Ben’s team also offers sailing training based on what the members want, so whether you’ve got your own boat, fancy some leisure boating, or want to crew up with someone else, there’s something for everyone. Even if you don’t own a boat, you’re still welcome to join the talks and social events.
For the latest info and events, check out their website. Coming up, there's a talk by Jordan Wylie MBE about extreme adventures on 10 January 2024, and the Frostbite Rally in Port Hamble on 20-21 January 2024. Expect mulled wine, tea cakes, and maybe even a party on a boat if the weather's good!
The site also has news like the highlights from their Laying Up Supper in December 2023 – a great night with good food, a raffle, and the prestigious Uncle Albert award.
So why not join Newbury Yacht Club? It’s a friendly, fun community for anyone passionate about sailing. Get involved, learn something new, and make some great mates!
