About
Charlie Masters, the dedicated organiser, champions the safety of New Brighton beachgoers through the New Brighton Surf Life Saving Club. Since its inception in July 1910, the club has been pivotal in preventing drownings and injuries over the summer months.
Located on Marine Parade, just north of the pier and opposite He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools, the club's volunteer surf lifeguards patrol every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm between 11th November 2023 and 17th March 2024. These highly trained lifeguards are committed to ensuring everyone enjoys a safe beach experience.
Charlie also oversees a robust Junior Surf programme for kids aged 7 to 14, nurturing the next wave of surf lifeguards and fostering a deep appreciation for the ocean. Furthermore, the club offers competitive surf sport programmes for those keen on taking their skills to the next level.
With a strong focus on community service, volunteering, and high safety standards, the New Brighton Surf Life Saving Club remains a cornerstone of the local community. Governed by a dedicated committee, including roles like the Club President, Chairperson, and Lifeguard Manager, the club ensures top-notch operations and member safety.
As New Zealand's oldest surf lifesaving club, New Brighton SLSC proudly upholds its legacy of promoting beach safety and fostering a love for the ocean.
