The Toowoomba Junior Rugby League is excited to announce the introduction of a brand new under-6 competition for the upcoming season. With the growing interest and participation in the under-6 age group, we felt it was essential to provide these young players with more time on the field and with the ball.
In this new competition, the rules will be tailored to accommodate smaller teams, giving each player a “second chance” and handing over to the opposition after a try. This change aims to encourage more youngsters to get involved and experience the joy of playing rugby league.
President of the TJRL, Dan Aldons, expressed his enthusiasm for the new competition and the positive impact it will have on junior footy. “We want to ensure that as many boys and girls as possible have the opportunity to play our game. It's important that we send the message that rugby league is the sport of choice,” Aldons said.
For parents, seeing their children have fun and enjoy rugby league in a safe and friendly environment is a top priority, especially for the younger ones. Aldons hopes that this change will allow more boys and girls to have a go, throw the footy around, and leave the field each week with big smiles on their faces, knowing they had a blast with their friends.
Registration for the new under-6 season is now open for children born in 2012 and 2013×. The decision to introduce this age group was endorsed at the TJRL Management Committee Meeting in December. It is important to note that in cases where a junior player will turn five (5) before July 1st in the current year of competition, they may, with the consent of the relevant Division and their parent or primary care provider, register in any under-six (6) age group competition. However, the club still needs to receive parent consent after exercising due diligence to ensure the player is ready to play.
Join the Toowoomba Junior Rugby League on this exciting journey as we continue to grow and improve the sport for our community's young players. Together, let's make rugby league the sport of choice for boys and girls of all ages.
