Nethermoss Archers has a rich history and is known as a prominent local archery club in Ormskirk. It all began back in 1958 when the club was established as part of the Sports & Social Club of English Electric in Netherton, Bootle.
Interestingly, the name of the club is derived from the effigy of a Knight, Sir Richard Molyneux circa 1270, which can be found in the beautiful Sefton St. Helen's Church. This connection to local history adds a special touch to the club's identity.
Over the years, Nethermoss Archers has overcome challenges and adaptability has been key. Due to the closure of English Electric, the club had to find new locations, eventually settling at Hurlston Hall in Scarisbrick. The move was made possible with support from Sport England and a grant from the LCC Community Chest, ensuring that shooting activities could continue uninterrupted during the summer months. When the weather turns colder, from October to April, the club makes use of the excellent facilities at Burscough Sports Centre for indoor shooting.
In recognition of its commitment and dedication, Nethermoss Archers was granted the esteemed Sport England 'Clubmark' award on September 24th, 2010. This achievement is a testament to the club's high standards and exceptional development practices. Additionally, the club is also registered with the Archery GB 'OnTarget' club development programme.
