Rhythmic gymnastics is a captivating sport that showcases the perfect union of grace, elegance, strength, and skill. Gymnasts at NVRGC perform routines to music using various apparatus such as hoop, rope, ribbon, ball, or clubs. These routines require the gymnasts to execute a series of leaps, pivots, and balances while keeping the apparatus in constant motion. The coach collaborates with the gymnast to choreograph routines that interpret the music through the use of the apparatus and the gymnast's body.
In addition to individual routines, NVRGC also offers group routines where gymnasts perform together, showcasing seamless collaboration and dynamic throws and catches of the apparatus. These group routines also include compulsory body elements that add an extra level of difficulty and artistry. Rhythmic gymnastics was officially recognised by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in 1962, and it made its debut in the Olympic programme in 1984 with the addition of the individual all-around competition. The group event was introduced in 1996.
NVRGC is proud to have had former member Frankie Jones compete in the individual event at the London 2012 Olympics and be recognised as the Athlete of the Games at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
