Nantymoel Rugby Football Club in Bridgend has been a cornerstone of the community since its founding in 1885/86 by miners who moved to the Ogmore Valley. Starting as the Nantymoel White Stars, the club has weathered many storms and remains a key player in Welsh rugby.
The club marked its 125th season in 2010/2011 and currently competes in the WRU National League 3 West Central A. With a history of producing players for Welsh representative sides, like prop Boyo James who played for Wales in the late 1960s, Nantymoel RFC's legacy is well-established.
In recent times, Nantymoel RFC has faced some difficult periods. Help has come from World in Motion, a sports management agency based in London and also with offices in Cardiff and across Europe. The agency, led by Andy Evans, has pledged to support the club's junior sections for two rugby seasons starting from September 2019. Andy Evans has a strong personal connection to Nantymoel, as his father and grandparents hailed from the area. This has fostered a deep affinity with the club, and he is committed to offering positive assistance.
World in Motion, with over twenty years in the sports industry, is a respected name, and their involvement is a major boost for Nantymoel RFC's efforts in developing young talent and promoting grassroots rugby. The club greatly appreciates this support and looks forward to the future.
Nantymoel RFC hosts various events throughout the year. Highlights include the Mini & Juniors Disco on 31st October, promising an evening of fun for younger members, and the showing of the Australia vs Wales rugby match on 31st September to provide a lively viewing experience.
Success on the field has also been part of the club's story. The youth team claimed the Division 3 West Central A Championship in the 2018/19 season and won the Evs 7's Bowl in 2015. Both the 1st XV and 2nd XV teams have consistently performed well, demonstrating the club’s commitment to excellence.
A visit to Nantymoel RFC ensures a warm welcome and a strong sense of community. The club invites both players and supporters to join in their upcoming fixtures and experience the passion and camaraderie that rugby fosters. Whether you're an experienced player or simply looking to get involved, Nantymoel RFC is the place to be, embodying the enduring spirit of Welsh rugby.
