My Fit Mumma is a personal training service located in Sandy Bay and founded by Sheridan Wakefield. Sheridan is a passionate advocate against diet culture and believes in a weight neutral, non-diet approach to exercise. She understands the harmful effects of the pressure that mothers feel to “lose the baby weight” or “bounce back” after giving birth. Sheridan aims to empower mothers to develop a healthy relationship with exercise and their bodies.
Sheridan believes that using exercise solely as a means to change weight or body shape can lead to negative outcomes, such as body dissatisfaction. Instead, she focuses on teaching women the important steps to build a strong foundation from the inside out. By taking the time to do so, mothers of any age and stage can exercise, engage in their favourite sports and activities, or simply move freely in their everyday lives with confidence, without experiencing pain, fear of injury, or incontinence. She emphasises the importance of working closely with a Women's Health Physiotherapist in achieving these goals.
Before entering the fitness industry, Sheridan had a successful career as a high school Health and PE teacher for over ten years. In 2015, three years into motherhood, she launched her first business, The HIIT Fix. As her client base consisting of women grew, Sheridan developed a desire to expand her knowledge about exercising safely during pregnancy and beyond. In 2018, she became an accredited MumSafe Trainer, and My Fit Mumma was born.
This year, Sheridan is also taking on a new role as a Safe Return to Exercise Master Trainer, educating other fitness professionals who work with mothers.
Sheridan holds a Bachelor's Degree in Human Movement with a Major in Health and Physical Education, as well as a Certificate IV in Fitness from the Australian Institute of Personal Trainers. She is dedicated to ongoing professional development and has invested time in further education in Women's Health and the Health at Every Size framework.
While currently taking a break from offering face-to-face services, Sheridan is preparing to open a female-focused boutique personal training studio in Sandy Bay in early 2024. She is excited to provide a safe and welcoming space for women to exercise and achieve their fitness goals. In the meantime, she is utilising her time to continue her professional development and support other fitness professionals interested in working with mothers.
My Fit Mumma, proudly created with Wix. Com, is committed to helping mothers exercise safely and develop a positive relationship with their bodies. Sheridan Wakefield's expertise, qualifications, and dedication to empowering women make My Fit Mumma an excellent choice for women in Sandy Bay seeking personalised fitness training.
