Muswell Hill Chess Club invites the sports community to join their friendly and well-established group based in London. Organiser, Andrew Costeloe, has put together a range of activities to suit everyone from beginners to experts. You'll find members with every level of skill, from novices right through to those with a grading of around 200.
A highlight at Muswell Hill Chess Club is the annual all-play-all chess championship. This allows players to engage in about 12 clock games against a mix of opponents. The club also fields two teams in the Middlesex League, with the first team competing in Division 1 and the second team in Division 2, each team made up of 8 boards.
Andrew also organises several events and activities during the season like the Blitz Championship, Christmas Blitz, and a Find the Move competition. The club’s lending library is another asset, available to all members keen to deepen their understanding of chess theory.
Fancy giving it a go? Newcomers are welcome to pop by for an evening and play some casual games for free. It's the perfect way to get a feel for the club. Head to their website for loads of useful chess theory info.
Meetings take place every Tuesday from 7pm to 10:30pm from September to late May. The club gathers at the Clissold Arms, 105 Fortis Green, London N2 9HR. It's an easy trip, just a 20-minute walk from Highgate and East Finchley tube stations, or a quick 5-minute bus ride on the 43 or 134 from Highgate Tube. Prefer to drive? There's parking available too.
