For beginners to experienced musicians, Ghawazee Moon Bellydance offers a fantastic opportunity to participate in a lightly facilitated, music & percussion circle. This event is perfect for those looking to enhance their skills, expand their repertoire, and even have the chance to perform!
Open to all who are interested in exploring Arabic music & percussion using hand drums, riqq, finger cymbals, and other percussive instruments, this circle welcomes musicians on acoustic instruments as well (no electronic instruments, please!).
The sessions kick off with basic Middle-Eastern rhythm patterns and gradually progress through skill sharing and practice. Participants will have the chance to add fills and flourishes as they work on specific musical pieces to play for dancers. It's important to note that these sessions are not structured classes but rather lightly facilitated circles where you can practice with others, gain confidence, and expand your knowledge through peer-to-peer learning. Printed copies of rhythm patterns and melodies will be provided, but the emphasis is on “hands-on” involvement. Beginners are more than welcome, so don't hesitate to join in!
If you have your own percussive instrument, feel free to bring it along. Whether it's a drum, hand drum, finger cymbals, riqq, tambourine, or even just your own hands, all are welcome! However, if you need to borrow an instrument, please let the club know in advance, as there are limited numbers available.
The best part about this Casual Circle is that you don't need to commit to a term or attend every single session. RSVP on the TeamApp or simply send a text to Sam at 0403020796 to make sure there's enough space for you.
Sessions are typically held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. Nonetheless, please double-check our School Calendar for exact dates, as they may occasionally change due to weekend performance commitments. Most of the sessions take place at Nellie Hall in Melba, but please keep an eye on the calendar for any details regarding sessions held at Sam's Home Studio in Macgregor.
The cost for drop-in sessions is only $5 per session or $20 per term. It's an affordable way to engage with fellow musicians and enhance your skills!
