About

Murgon Judo Club, also known as Murgonjudoclub, is a renowned Judo club located in Murgon, Australia. The club was established by Sensei Stan Munday on January 22nd, 2007, at the former Murgon Pulse, which is now the South Burnett PCYC. However, the club has now moved to a new location – the Body Fuel & Fitness Studio at 58 Gore Street in Murgon.

At Murgon Judo Club, all ages, and skill levels are welcome to train and participate in judo classes. The training sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced judoka, the club provides a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone.

Murgon Judo Club takes pride in being the first Judo club in Australia to introduce a Special Needs Grading policy. In 2008, the club made history by having two Special Needs Judoka represent Australia at an International Special Needs Event, where they brought home Bronze and Silver medals. The club continued its success in the following years, winning Silver in 2010 and Gold in 2013. Although it is unfortunate that one of these talented players no longer participates in Judo, their achievements highlight the club's dedication to inclusivity and excellence.

The club offers various membership options, including seniors (over 16 years old) and juniors (under 16 years old). The mat fees for both seniors and juniors are $5. Additionally, there is a membership fee of $30 for both seniors and juniors. Families can also opt for a family membership, which costs $60.

For families with two or more members, the mat fee is $10 per lesson. Murgon Judo Club provides new Judogis (uniforms), with blue ones priced at $70. The club also offers a club badge for $10 and a name badge for $5.

Murgon Judo Club takes its commitment to its members and friends seriously. It was the first Judo Club in Queensland to reach Level 3 as a Good Sports Club, which is an exceptional achievement for a small club. This accomplishment demonstrates the club's dedication to creating a positive and inclusive environment for all its participants.

Judo, as a martial art and combat sport, offers numerous benefits for children. Apart from building athletic skills, Judo also focuses on building character traits such as discipline, manners, punctuality, strength, stamina, tenacity, toughness, and confidence. The club believes that these character traits are essential for success and are highly respected in society. Additionally, Judo instils respect for others through the training and requires disciplined behaviour in the dojo.

This respect grows over time, leading to increased self-confidence. Parents often find that their rambunctious children become well-behaved and respectful towards adults through their training in Judo.

Judo also prepares children for life's challenges. In the dojo, children learn that winning is not always the most important aspect; instead, the dedication to training, the courage to compete, and the ability to persevere are what set judoka apart. The training teaches children persistence, resolve, and perseverance, preparing them for the ups and downs they will encounter in life.

Character building in Judo is exemplified by the ability to be thrown on the mat and then getting back up to continue fighting. This determination and toughness are highly valued by the club. They believe that the first step towards success is to learn from the lessons taught by Judo master Kyuzo Mifune - to get up after being knocked down. Murgon Judo Club aims to nurture this resilience and encourages its members to never give up.

While the club focuses on character development, it also emphasises the importance of having fun. Success in games, passing belt promotions, and winning in shiai (competitions) are celebrated and enjoyed by the children. It is in these moments of achievement that children realise how rewarding and enjoyable Judo can be.

Murgon Judo Club, also known as Murgonjudoclub, is not just a Judo club; it is a community that welcomes everyone. Whether you are looking to learn self-defence, improve your physical fitness, or develop character traits, Murgon Judo Club offers a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Join today and embark on a journey of personal growth and success in the world of Judo.
