Kia ora sports community,
Peter from the Motueka Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Club has a message for you all. The club in Motueka offers training in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, two practical martial arts.
Judo, a martial art brought to life by Professor Jigoro Kano, is all about moral and physical growth. The first Judo club, the Kodokan, was started by Professor Kano in 1882. For a bit of local context, did you know the first rugby club in NZ began in Nelson in 1868? Practiced within a Judo Club, this discipline involves techniques from both standing and grappling positions—kicks and punches aren’t part of the deal.
Training sessions are held at the Motueka Recreation Centre on Old Wharf Road. You can reach out to the club by phone at (03) 528 9853 or email motuekajudoclub@gmail.com. For more details, check out their website at judonz.org/contact-us/club/cd#.
Training hours are set for Monday and Wednesday evenings. On Mondays, juniors aged 5-10 train from 6 pm to 7 pm, with an advanced session following from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. On Wednesdays, there's a combined advanced and competitive Judoka session from 6 pm to 7:30 pm.
Peter emphasizes that the Motueka Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club is a great place for everyone, whether you're just starting out or looking to sharpen your skills. The club offers a supportive environment tailored to all skill levels. Come along and join the Motueka martial arts community!
Hope to see you on the mats soon!
Ngā mihi nui,
Peter
