Mossburn Rugby Club

Welcome to Mossburn Pirates Rugby Club, a historic rugby club located in Mossburn, New Zealand. Established in 1920, the club has a rich history and is celebrating its centennial in 2020. In 1989, Mossburn Rugby Club merged with Country Pirates, giving birth to Mossburn Pirates.

The club is made up of a passionate group of players, volunteers, and supporters who participate in the Southland-wide competition during the winter months. The Mossburn Pirates Rugby Club is proud to be a part of the local community, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Mick Cournane, the team mascot when Mossburn Rugby was first formed, has continued to be an integral part of the club. He served as the President for an impressive 25 years and is now a life member of the club. Other esteemed life members include Colin Boyd, Peter Currie, Ian Taylor, Isaac Campbell, Gerald Coghlan, Dave Fairbairn, Geoff Stevens, Bruce Taylor, Rex Carter, Peter Turner, and Brendon Duthie.

In the 2019 season, Mossburn Pirates Rugby Club fielded five teams: a rippa team for beginners, tackle teams for year 3 and 4, tackle teams for year 5 and 6, a women's team known as the Northern Southland Transport Mossburn Hinds, and a senior team known as the Northern Southland Transport Mossburn Stags. The Mossburn Stags were proud winners of the Speights Shield and the Division 1 Gerald Dermody Shield in 2019.
