Monklands Canoe Club is a white water kayak and canoe club located between Glasgow and Coatbridge in Central Scotland. With regular trips across the country, the club aims to foster a passion for the thrilling sports of white water kayaking and canoeing. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced paddler, Monklands Canoe Club offers a range of sessions to help you develop and improve your skills.
One of the club's main offerings is their flat water coaching sessions. Held at both the pool in The Time Capsule in Coatbridge and Pinkston Watersports in Glasgow, these sessions are perfect for beginners and paddlers looking to enhance their play boating skills. The pool sessions run from October till Mark, while the Pinkston sessions take place between March and October. With qualified coaches and experienced paddlers available during each session, participants can receive valuable guidance and instruction to enhance their skills and techniques.
Monklands Canoe Club is also a regular user of the Pinkston Watersports facility, which boasts an artificial white water course. This course, akin to an artificial ski slope, offers a thrilling and challenging white-water experience. The club runs three sessions a month on the course, with one session dedicated to coaching and skill progression. These sessions are held on Wednesdays and run alongside the flat water coaching sessions, allowing members to build their skills and progress.
The other two sessions are open sessions, providing opportunities for paddlers to practise and use the skills they have learned. These open sessions are held on Tuesdays and allow the white water course to be utilised for warm-ups and practise.
In addition to regular coaching sessions, Monklands Canoe Club also offers club trips for all levels of paddlers. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned grade 4 boater, there are trips available to cater to your skill level. These river trips take place at least once a month during the Spring, Summer, and Autumn seasons, and less frequently in the winter. The club provides all necessary equipment and offers quality coaching to help you progress through the grades.
Experienced trip leaders ensure that river navigation is done safely. The club also provides the opportunity to meet paddlers of all levels and organise peer trips outside the club.
