Mole Valley Bowmen is a friendly archery club located at St Martin's C of E Primary School in Dorking, Surrey. Established in March 1974, the club welcomes members from all around Mole Valley and beyond. They offer two beginners courses each outdoor season, one in the Spring and one in the Autumn. For those interested in joining, all the necessary details can be found on their Join Us page.
At Mole Valley Bowmen, members shoot all types of bows including longbow, recurve, and compound. The club prides itself on having a great balance between recreational and tournament archery, and several members have even been a part of the Surrey County Squad. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the club organised two open competitions annually. One called the Wand and Clout in May, and the other, a double WA 720 in June.
Although currently on hold, the club hopes to resume these competitions in the future. More information about these competitions can be found by visiting their Competitions menu.
The club's home ground is located at St Martin's C of E Primary School on Ranmore Road in Dorking, Surrey. For those looking to contact the club, they can be reached through email at mvb. Sec@gmail. Com.
Directions to the club can be found on their website. If travelling from the M25 and the North, individuals are instructed to leave Jct 9 of the M25 and head towards Dorking on the A24. After passing the Friends Provident building, they should move into the right-hand lane and turn into Ashcombe Road (next to the school). From there, they can follow the road to a mini roundabout and continue straight over.
At the T-junction, they should turn left and immediately right into the school. Parking is available in the car park at the front, with access to the field at the back.
Mole Valley Bowmen participates in and hosts a range of competitions. Their open competitions include the Wand and Clout, a unique event where participants spend the morning doing a non-record status clout, and the afternoon trying to hit a 6-inch wide stick at 100 yards. Another open competition is the double WA 720 70/60/50m, which replaced the Sheila Brown. The club also takes part in various postal competitions both nationally and regionally.
These competitions span both the indoor and outdoor seasons and allow members to compare themselves against archery clubs around the country. Additionally, the club holds informal and fun shoots throughout the year, including the Club Champs to declare winners based on score and handicap, the Ted MacDonald, Birthday Shoot, and Christmas Shoot.
Overall, Mole Valley Bowmen offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for archery enthusiasts of all levels. With a range of competitions, courses, and fun shoots, they provide opportunities for members to improve their skills, participate in tournaments, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow archers.
