Under the guidance of renowned Senseis Goki Uemura and Tokio Koizumi, the club quickly rose to prominence, producing Canadian champions who excelled on the international stage.
At the core of the club's philosophy is the art of Judo, meaning “the gentle way. “ Developed by Professor Jigoro Kano in 1882, Judo is more than just a martial art it is a holistic form of physical, intellectual, and moral education. Focused on principles of maximum efficiency with minimum effort and mutual welfare and benefit, Judo has become a widely practised Olympic sport in over 195 countries worldwide.
The Mississauga Judo Club warmly welcomes both novice and seasoned judoka who are eager to embark on or continue their Judo journey. With competitive streams available, all members are registered with Judo Ontario and Judo Canada, providing them with the opportunity to compete at regional, provincial, and international tournaments.
Led by a team of talented and dedicated instructors, including names such as Eric Lindsay, Angelique Plata-Harris, Michael Walsh, Andy Shimabukaro, Paul Shearhart, and Alex Forostyanko, the club ensures that students receive top-notch coaching in all aspects of Judo. Whether it be refining throwing techniques or mastering grappling controls, the instructors at Mississauga Judo Club are committed to helping students reach their full potential.
The club offers a variety of classes for kids and adults, with special high-performance sessions on Sundays exclusive to invitation-only athletes. With session-based fees for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall terms, the club aims to provide accessible and inclusive training opportunities for all. Current circumstances regarding COVID-19 mean that yearly memberships are on hold for the time being.
Conveniently located in Mississauga, the club features state-of-the-art facilities equipped with large fighting areas, crash mats, mens and womens change rooms with shower facilities, and washrooms. Officially affiliated with Judo Ontario, students at Mississauga Judo Club have the chance to participate in a variety of tournaments and events.
