Mini Golf

Mini Golf is a charming miniature golf course located in Barnard Castle, New Zealand. Operated by Barnard Castle Town Council, this 9-hole course is situated on Scar Top, just opposite the entrance to the castle. With its proximity to the castle and its location in the conservation area of Scar Top, Mini Golf provides a delightful and engaging experience for visitors of all ages.

The course at Mini Golf is not just your typical mini golf experience. It has been thoughtfully designed to promote the natural, cultural, and heritage values of the local area while also raising awareness of the nearby visitor attractions. Carved stone monoliths representing local landmarks, such as The Market Cross, The Witham Hall, The Bowes Museum, Egglestone Abbey, County Bridge, and of course, The Castle, can be found built into the course. These intricate sculptures add a touch of history and charm to the gameplay.

In addition, the three remaining holes on the course depict the River Tees, the rolling Hills and Dale, and the Forces of Teesdale, as a representation of 'A Journey through Teesdale'. This concept adds an element of adventure and storytelling to the mini golf experience, making it an enjoyable and educational activity for everyone.

The course at Mini Golf underwent an extensive redevelopment in 2013, thanks to the financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the North Pennine Dales Leader, the Teesdale Action Partnership Neighbourhood Budget, and Barnard Castle Town Council. The renowned Urban Crazy (Mobile) Ltd assisted in the design and construction of the course, while the talented Phil Townsend of Eggleston contributed to the creation of the distinctive carved stone features. The collaboration between these contractors ensured a visually pleasing and cohesive design.

Mini Golf opens its doors on 1st April 2023 for the low season, with extended hours during the high season, starting from 27th May. The course operates from 10:00 to 18:00 during the high season, seven days a week. In the low season, Mini Golf is open from 10:30 to 16:30. However, please note that operating hours are subject to change based on weather conditions.

For those interested in playing at Mini Golf, the prices are quite reasonable. A single ticket costs 3, while a group ticket, suitable for up to four players, costs 9 for one round. Additionally, Mini Golf offers a loyalty ticket priced at 15, which allows for the pre-purchase of seven rounds. Please note that Mini Golf is currently accepting cash-only payments.
