Mind Warrior Karate is a renowned martial arts school located in Collaroy, Australia. Founded by Greg Van Borssum, a highly experienced martial artist with over forty years of training, the school offers a unique and comprehensive training programme for individuals of all ages and skill levels.
Greg Van Borssum is a respected figure in the martial arts community. In addition to his extensive training in the Orient, he has also worked as a Hollywood Fight Choreographer and Weapons Specialist. His choreography skills were showcased in the Academy Award Winning film, Mad Max Fury Road. When he is not in the Dojo, Greg dedicates his time as an Inspirational speaker, teaching people about “the warriors mindset” and assisting them in overcoming challenges to reach their full potential.
The journey of Mind Warrior Karate started when Greg's son Macyn expressed his desire to continue his martial arts training after their move to the Central Coast six years ago. In response to his son's request, Greg founded the school in the Wagstaffe Community hall, while simultaneously constructing a traditional Okinawa Karate Dojo on his property. Today, the school proudly trains members of the local community from ages five to seventy-five years.
Greg has had the privilege of training under some of the best masters in the world. One of the most significant influences in his life is Sensei Mark Greville, a Kyoshi 9th Dan Karate Master. Greg began training under Sensei Greville in the late 1980s and was immediately captivated by his extensive knowledge and abilities. Through years of dedicated training, Greg became accepted as a private student, building and developing his own skills.
Even after twenty-five years, Greg and Sensi Greville continue to train together. The Killcare Shorin Ryu Shorinkan Karate School proudly serves as the sister school of the Northern Beaches Collaroy Dojo and is part of the Okinawan Martial Arts Body in Okinawa, under the guidance of 10th Dan Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato.
In addition to his martial arts accomplishments, Greg has also made significant contributions to the film industry. He was the Digital Crowds Director, 2nd Unit Director, and Motion Capture Director for Happy Feet 1 and 2. Most notably, he served as the Principal Fight Choreographer, Weapons Specialist, and actor on the award-winning film, Mad Max Fury Road. The film received accolades such as six Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Taurus Stunt Awards for best stunts.
Its fight sequences have been hailed as some of the best of the decade in film.
In recognition of his expertise and dedication to public speaking, Greg became the first Australian speaker (and the first in the southern hemisphere) to receive his Accredited Speakers Designation in Colorado, US. This prestigious designation has only been bestowed upon 87 individuals globally in the past 40 years, further solidifying Greg's status as an influential figure in the field.
At Mind Warrior Karate, students are not only taught martial arts techniques but also encouraged to lead by example. Greg strives to inspire his students in all aspects of life, fostering a disciplined mindset and empowering them to overcome obstacles.
