Milford Bowls Club is excited to invite interested players to a local Lawn Bowls event taking place at our clubhouse in Godalming. From September to April, when the outdoor season concludes, we offer a fantastic opportunity to continue enjoying the sport with two short mats in our clubhouse.
We have an array of activities for our members, including league games and friendly matches. Additionally, we organise roll-up sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 4.30pm, as well as Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9.30pm (excluding league game days). We leave the mats down for general practice sessions unless we have club social activities scheduled.
If you've never played short mat before, we encourage you to join one of our Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon sessions and give it a try. If those timings don't work for you, simply get in touch, and we'll be more than happy to find a suitable time and date for you to come and experience the excitement. Rest assured, no previous experience or knowledge of bowls is required – it's all about having a great time!
As you continue to play, you'll witness your skills grow and develop. Our friendly and experienced members are always ready to teach you techniques and tactics, ensuring a continuous improvement in your game. Short mat bowls uses the same shoes and bowls as the outdoor version, so make sure to wear flat-soled shoes if you haven't bowled before. However, don't worry if you don't have your own bowls; we can provide them for you to borrow. Halfway through our sessions, we take a well-deserved break for a cup of tea, allowing everyone to catch their breath and socialise.
If you're already familiar with the sport, we extend a warm welcome for you to come and join us. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, we are always thrilled to welcome new players to our club. We participate in various leagues, including the SHAB league, the Merrow League played at Merrow Methodist Church on Tuesday evenings, the Surrey Two Wood Triples played at Wey Valley on Monday evenings, and the Woking Borough League, also played at Wey Valley, on Wednesday evenings. Additionally, we regularly engage in friendly matches in the afternoons and weekends to further expand our skills and enhance our enjoyment of the game.
In 2022, we were honoured to secure the championship title in the Merrow League after an intense final game against Normandy. Despite starting two points behind them, we ultimately clinched the victory due to our superior shot difference. This success showcases the dedication and talent that can be found within our club.
For those looking to take their skills to the next level, registering for the ESMBA opens up the opportunity to participate in Surrey and/or National competitions. Additionally, you can trial to play for one of the County Squads, an exciting prospect for those seeking to challenge themselves further and represent their region in the sport they love.
So come on down to Milford Bowls Club and be part of our vibrant sporting community. Whether you're a novice or an experienced player, we have a place for you. Join us for an enjoyable and fulfilling journey, as we strive for excellence both on and off the mats.
