Originally, this sport stemmed from an old Mexican pistolero pastime in the early 1900s, where live game animals were used as targets. However, in 1948, the sport became more civilised and switched to using Metallic Silhouettes. The first recorded metallic silhouette match took place in Mexico City, setting the stage for what is now a thrilling competition.
Hosted at the SSAA Victoria Eagle Park Sporting Complex, located in Gifkins Lane Little River, approximately 50 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, this event follows strict safety guidelines and adheres to IHMSA competition rules and regulations. It offers three different competition disciplines to cater to various skill levels.
At Eagle Park, you can participate in the 200 metre Big Bore event, the 100 metre Field Pistol event, or the 100 metre Rimfire event. Each competitor is given the opportunity to adjust their sights with 5 'sighters' before facing the varying distances.
What makes the Rimfire event particularly exciting is its growing popularity and its minimal targets, which adds a considerable factor of difficulty. On the other hand, the Field Pistol event challenges participants with its scaled-down targets, serving as an ideal stepping stone between Rimfire and the full Big Bore competition.
For those ready to take on the ultimate challenge, the Big Bore event requires sturdy hardware, strong loads, and a steady hand to knock down targets at distances of 50, 100, 150, and 200 meters. It's a true test of skill and precision.
The competition days for Handgun Metallic Silhouette at Eagle Park are usually held on the 4th Sunday of every month, except in December. Don't be late, as the action starts promptly at 9:00am.
