Messrs Sibley Merrie Stud is a renowned horse riding school and farm located in Southampton, New Zealand. With over sixty years of experience in breeding New Forest ponies, Merrie Stud takes great pride in their lineage, which can be traced back to well-known stallions after World War II such as Goodenough, Brookside David, Denny Danny, and Knightwood Spitfire.
At Merrie Stud, they strive to provide a safe and reliable environment for children to learn not only the techniques of riding but also pony care and stable management. Helen Orman, a satisfied parent, describes Merrie Stud as a fun and dependable place for children to learn and grow. The school offers lessons and hacks for children aged four to seventeen years and lightweight adults.
Children like Penelope, age nine, express their love for Merrie Stud by saying that they feel comfortable and confident with Mrs Shaw, the owner of Merrie Stud, and her ponies. Lucy, age five, adds that she loves Mrs Shaw and Carolyn, another instructor at the school, and her favourite horse, Buddy. Charlotte, age eight, highlights her enthusiasm for Saturdays at Merrie Stud, where she learns to jump and canter while riding all the ponies.
Merrie Stud is located on Corhampton Park Farm, which spans 160 acres of beautiful meadows in the Meon Valley. The farm features old pasture land, chalk down land offering stunning views of Old Winchester and Beacon Hills, as well as ancient woodland that is in the process of restoration. The farm includes an old Ice House, a historical feature that is one of the few remaining ice houses in Hampshire. The adjacent water meadows alongside the Meon river provide an ample grazing ground for the farm's beef suckler herd, which consists of approximately 25 cows and followers.
The riding school at Merrie Stud is British Horse Society (BHS) approved and licenced by Winchester City. With a range of New Forest ponies, their riding school offers lessons and hacks for children aged six and up, as well as lightweight adults. The ponies at Merrie Stud are suitable for riders up to 10 stone and 5'9 in height. The school boasts excellent off-road hacking options and all-weather floodlit facilities.
