Merkids - Mermaid Swimming

MerKids - Mermaid Swimming is a swimming instructor and children's party service located in Hailsham, East Sussex. Founded and owned by Dee Harmer, a passionate water enthusiast and experienced swimmer, MerKids aims to bring the joy and magic of mermaid swimming to children of all ages.

Dee Harmer, also known as Dee Thorogood, grew up as a competitive swimmer and discovered her deep love for the water extended beyond the traditional lanes. She developed a strong affinity for scuba diving and even picked up underwater photography almost 20 years ago. With three children of her own, Dee's life revolves around the water, and she couldn't be happier.

Accredited by Swim England and the RLSS, MerKids ensures safety, challenge, and pure fun in all their services. They are CRB checked and insured, providing a secure environment for children to learn and play. Dee herself holds various qualifications, including STA Swim Teachers Safety Award, Swim England L2 Swimming Teacher Qualification, Beach Lifeguard, Open Water Swim Coach, PADI Scuba Instructor, and Safeguarding Children Certificate.

MerKids offers a range of services and experiences to create unforgettable moments for children. One of their standout offerings is the “Become a MerKid” experience. During a one-hour session, children learn how to swim using a mono fin and tail. The experience is filled with exciting games and challenges, allowing children to embrace their imagination and transform into legendary creatures.

Each participant receives a certificate of participation, and the minimum age requirement is 6, with a prerequisite of being able to swim 25m. The cost is 25 per child.

For those looking to celebrate a special occasion, MerKids also provides unique and enchanting birthday parties. Priced at 160 for a one-hour party for up to 8 children, with additional children at 20 each (up to a maximum of 10-12, depending on pool size). The birthday package includes the use of monofins and stunning tail skins, personalised invites, a special birthday gift for the celebrant, and personalised certificates of participation for all children. Pool hire is included in the package, with underwater photography and video services available as optional extras.

As part of their offerings, MerKids collaborates with The Underwater Studio to provide professional underwater photography. Using a digital SLR camera and professional lighting, timeless images capturing the beauty of children underwater in their gorgeous tails are created.
