The Meridian Kung Fu (UK) Instructor Programme is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about Mixed Martial Arts and are looking to make a career change. This rigorous training programme aims to develop individuals into qualified instructors who can eventually run their own branch of the club.
The programme consists of 6 levels of progression, each building upon the skills and knowledge gained in the previous level. Participants will learn coaching and management skills through monthly 2-hour seminars held at our headquarters in Chelmsford. These seminars are led by experienced instructor and business mentor, Sifu Steve Carpenter. In addition to the seminars, participants will also receive hands-on training by assisting in actual classes once a week. This combination of theoretical and practical training ensures that participants develop the high level of skill required to become a Meridian Kung Fu (UK) Coach.
What makes this programme unique is that there is no charge for it, providing an incredible opportunity for aspiring instructors to receive training from top professionals in the field. However, it's important to note that the number of new recruits accepted each year is limited, and there are strict guidelines that must be followed throughout the 4-year programme. Additionally, there are some associated costs, including a coaching kit (£60), coaching manual (£15), and a DBS check (£9).
Let's take a look at the 6 levels of the programme:
- Level 1: Basic class involvement duties during sessions, including equipment setup and health and safety checks.
- Level 2: Introduction to coaching, with basic coaching duties such as pad and drill training under supervision.
- Level 3: Class management systems, including maintaining the class register, organising students, and following the curriculum.
- Level 4: Advanced coaching skills, such as coaching small groups, maximising student participation, and running warm-up and cool-down sessions.
- Level 5: Demonstration coaching ability, including equipment setup, health and safety checks, small group curriculum training, and warm-up and cool-down sessions.
- Level 6: Branch management tuition, covering economics and enrolment, marketing and recruitment, maintenance, insurance, and first aid.
Upon completing level 6, participants will be awarded provisional instructor status. If all the standards outlined in the Instructor's handbook are met, full instructor status will be awarded. As an additional benefit, Meridian Kung Fu (UK) offers a one-year trial period to new instructors to open their own branch. Additionally, if an instructor requires it, Meridian Kung Fu (UK) is able to provide a full-time premises on a lease basis in any area of the UK.
Becoming an MKF Instructor is not just a job, but a passion.
