The academy specialises in teaching traditional Yang-Style Tai Chi since 1992. The experienced instructors cover all elements of the traditional Yang Style syllabus, from foundational techniques to advanced forms, including Push Hands and Application. The training also includes an exploration of the culture, history, and philosophy of Tai Chi, fostering a holistic understanding of the practise.
Students at Mei Quan Academy have access to a wide range of learning materials online, including articles, videos, and training guides, to support their Tai Chi practise. The academy is dedicated to helping students develop calmness, centredness, and groundedness, while also improving co-ordination, balance, and suppleness. The training promotes harmony of the mind, body, and spirit, and encourages self-knowledge, confidence, and self-discipline. Additionally, students can build their energy and vitality through the practise of Tai Chi and Qigong.
Classes at Mei Quan Academy entail a mix of warm-up and conditioning exercises, Tai Chi Form, Qigong, and partner work. Students learn the Beijing 24-Step Short Form as the basis of their training, which provides a strong foundation for later learning the full Long Form. They also learn a variety of effective Qigong exercises, such as the Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade sequence and the 28-Step Qigong set, as well as Standing Stake meditation. Partner exercises, including Sticking, Yielding, and Centring, are used to develop balance, co-ordination, spacial awareness, and sensitivity.
The academy aims to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students can grow and develop their Tai Chi practise.
