About

Medley Sailing Club, Oxford, is a family-friendly dinghy sailing club located within walking distance of the centre of Oxford. Situated on the river Thames, between Rainbow Bridge at Medley and Godstow lock at Wolvercote, the club offers a beautiful and convenient location for sailing enthusiasts.

The club organises racing events from March to November on Sunday afternoons and on Wednesday evenings from May to September. There is also dedicated family and junior sailing, with a service launch available before the Sunday races. However, members have access to the river all year round for recreational sailing.

With approximately 120 members and 85 boats, Medley Sailing Club boasts a vibrant and active community. In fact, last year, almost half of the boats were raced, which is significantly higher than the national average. The club encourages all members to participate in its activities, including assisting with the running of sailing events.

Apart from the racing events, Medley Sailing Club hosts a number of social events throughout the year, fostering a sense of camaraderie and community among its members. The club also holds an annual regatta and open days in May or June for those interested in learning more about sailing.

For those who do not have their own boats, Medley Sailing Club offers the opportunity to use one of the club's six boats. Members can rent these boats for a nominal fee of 5/half day. Additionally, the club offers the unique opportunity to “Adopt a Topper,” allowing members to pay for the insurance and River licence for a Topper boat and have exclusive use of it for a year.

The club has three main racing fleets: British Moth, Fast, and Slow. The British Moth fleet is the largest, with around 40 single-handed 11ft dinghies, attracting sailors from other clubs to Medley's annual Moth open meeting. The Fast fleet consists of Enterprises, Lasers, and Merlins, while the Slow fleet comprises Herons, Toppers, and Mirror dinghies. The club is particularly keen on encouraging members, especially young sailors, to join the Slow fleet.

Medley Sailing Club can be contacted via email or by writing to their postal address. Interested individuals can also visit the club on any Sunday afternoon between March and November and speak to a committee member. The club is conveniently located near Bossom's boatyard, downstream from the Perch Inn and the village of Binsey.

As a community-driven sailing club with excellent facilities, Medley Sailing Club provides sailing enthusiasts, both experienced and beginners, with a welcoming and inclusive environment to enjoy their passion for sailing.
