Welcome to Meadowbank Gymnastics Club, a premier gymnastics academy located in Dalkeith, New Zealand. Inspired by the 1970 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games, Maggie Bisset founded the club to provide recreational gymnastics coaching to boys and girls at the original Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh. Since then, Meadowbank Gymnastics Club has become the first club in the wider Lothians to offer gymnastics at all levels of ability for both boys and girls.
Meadowbank Gymnastics Club has a rich history of producing East of Scotland and Scottish Champions, as well as having gymnasts in Scottish and British squads who have represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games. With the redevelopment of Meadowbank Stadium by the City of Edinburgh Council, the club embarked on a mission to acquire its own dedicated gym space. Through the hard work of parents, volunteers, and fundraising activities, the club's steering committee found a suitable space and, with the support of a loan from Social Investment Scotland, opened its own dedicated facility in a unit on the Mayfield Industrial Estate near Dalkeith.
The gym is fully equipped with world-class equipment used by international athletes during competitions, including the Olympics. Meadowbank Gymnastics Club offers classes for preschoolers and beginners up to performance level competitive gymnasts. The classes are conducted in a safe, fun, and friendly environment, ensuring that every child can thrive and reach their full potential.
The Coaching Team at Meadowbank Gymnastics Club is led by Head Coach Maggie Bisset, who was recently honoured with a lifetime achievement award by Scottish Gymnastics. Supported by a team of experienced and dedicated coaches and volunteers, the club provides top-notch gymnastics instruction to all its members.
At Meadowbank Gymnastics Club, competitive classes run throughout the week, offering intensive training for dedicated gymnasts who are passionate about the sport. These classes involve longer training hours and participation in meets, some of which may not be in the local area. Competitive gymnasts train on all apparatus, including floor, vault, beam, and uneven bars for girls, and floor, vault, rings, pommel horse, parallel bars, and high bar for boys. While beginners typically start at the recreational level, they may be invited to transition into the competitive section as they progress.
If you're interested in joining Meadowbank Gymnastics Club, please get in touch for general inquiries or new member inquiries. We look forward to welcoming your child to our gym, where they can learn, grow, and excel in the sport of gymnastics.
