The journey begins with the Beginner's experience. Beginners are grouped together in classes according to their age and dance together for approximately one hour. Classes are affordable, with dancers only needing comfortable sports attire and plimsolls or pumps. There is no need for formal class costumes or shoes at this stage.
Beginner's classes focus on learning the basics of Irish dance in a fun and non-competitive environment. The only additional cost is an annual registration fee, which includes a t-shirt, shoe bag, or other branded attire.
As dancers progress, they may want to invest in a pair of Irish dance pumps used in soft shoe dancing. Heavy shoes are only required as a child progresses, and there are always second-hand options available. Beginners are encouraged to participate in the Academy's two annual class competitions, held in the summer and at Christmas.
