Welcome to McGahan Lees Irish Dance Academy (McGL)! Founded in 1996 by Frances McGahan, the Academy is a registered dance club with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha, one of the governing bodies of Irish dance based in Dublin, Ireland. With over 25 years of experience, the Academy has earned a reputation as a world-renowned Irish Dance Academy, guiding dancers from beginners to the stages of London’s West End.
McGL offers classes for all ages and levels, catering to absolute beginners (starting from 4 years old) to Open Championship World Medal holders. The experienced teachers at McGL have embarked on the same journey and are qualified to provide the best instruction, eagerly waiting for the moments when their students follow in their footsteps.
At McGL, every dancer is treated as an equal. Classes are specifically tailored to each student's level, ensuring that they receive the proper guidance and support. If a dancer shows the willingness and ability to progress, we provide them with the opportunity to do so. We take pride in our ability to support talented dancers internally through the “Friends of McGahan Lees” program. Financial constraints will never hinder a dancer's potential growth within our Academy.
McGL also takes its responsibility to support the larger community seriously, donating thousands of pounds to charity every year.
However, our Academy is more than just a Dance Academy. We are a tight-knit community that supports one another. We provide dancers with opportunities to develop a love for Irish dance by challenging their abilities to excel. While many dance for the sheer love of it, some truly excel and find themselves travelling the globe, creating memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.
For beginners, classes revolve around learning the basics of Irish Dance in a fun and non-competitive environment. All that's needed is comfortable sports attire (t-shirt, shorts or leggings) and plimsolls or pumps. Beginner's classes are affordable, and the only additional cost is an annual registration fee, which includes a t-shirt, shoe bag, or other McGL branded attire such as a water bottle.
Beginners are encouraged to participate in our two annual class competitions held in the summer and at Christmas. These competitions are enjoyable for the whole family, with an emphasis on having fun and providing dancers with an opportunity to gauge their progress.
If you're curious and want to learn more about McGL, we invite you to join our Academy and begin your journey to becoming an Irish dancer.
