MascallDance is a platform for somatic movement teaching, creation, research, and practice, welcoming dancers and enthusiasts to their workspace in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Led by Artistic Director and Founder Jennifer Mascall, the company is known for its unique and energetic investigation of movement, deeply collaborative interdisciplinary approach, and unexpected performances in various venues.
Jennifer Mascall, a Canadian choreographer, teacher, improviser, mentor, and advocate for the art form, is a ceaseless investigator and an unquenchable source of ideas, with over 200 works to her name. Her somatic movement inquiry is informed by studies with American master teachers Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and Linda Putnam. Prior to founding MascallDance in 2001, she had an international career as a solo improviser and also co-founded collectives such as GRID, TIDE, and EDAM.
MascallDance operates year-round, offering a range of unique classes, workshops, and opportunities for both emerging and experienced dancers. The company encourages new generations of artists through collaboration, creation, choreographic residencies, intensives, and dialogue. MascallDance is committed to pushing boundaries and challenging dancers and audiences alike with their conceptually stimulating and technically exceptional performances.
Supporters of MascallDance can create a donation of any amount to the society, with all donations over $25 eligible for a tax receipt. Supporters can also support an amount of tickets for individuals or organizations recommended by donors. MascallDance Society, founded in 2001, continues to thrive as a hub for somatic movement teaching, creation, and research in Vancouver.
