In July 2014, following the excitement of the Tour de France visiting our area in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Witnessing the enthusiastic response to cycling, the community showed overwhelming interest, leading us to establish Marsden Racers. Our club combines both running and cycling, catering to individuals of all abilities.
At Marsden Racers, our primary mission is to make running and cycling as accessible as possible to everyone. We firmly believe that no one should be left behind, and we welcome individuals of all skill levels. We are a community-oriented club, constantly seeking ways to assist and support our members and the overall community. In 2020, we are excited to expand and develop into a more official capacity to better serve our members.
We offer a range of sessions throughout the week. On Tuesdays at 6:15 PM, we have our 5K beginners' session, which extends a warm welcome to children as well. This session is perfect for absolute beginners and those looking to get back into fitness. Over the course of eight weeks, we gradually increase the intensity with mini intervals to help participants achieve a 5K run.
Following the beginners' session, on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM, we have our trail and road sessions, also welcoming children. We divide our groups into various paces, including 10-minute milers and under, 8 to 10-minute milers, and 8-minute milers and under. Running routes range from 5 to 8 miles, accommodating all abilities.
For those interested in cycling, we host road cycling on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. The route covers approximately 20–25 miles and showcases the picturesque views of the Colne and Holme valleys.
Thursdays at 6:30 PM brings our 5K intervals session, again welcoming children. This trail speed and strength session is designed for those looking to push their speed and fitness levels further. Participants engage in 30 minutes of mini intervals to elevate heart rate and improve overall performance.
At Marsden Racers, we provide an engaging and supportive environment for individuals to pursue their fitness goals. We offer resources such as training plans and organise social events like charity challenges. We have partnered with various organisations, raising funds for causes such as Holme Valley Mountain Rescue, Macmillan, and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
To encourage new potential members, we offer a free 30-day trial period for all sessions. This allows individuals to experience the benefits of training in a group and witness the fantastic camaraderie that our club fosters. We firmly believe that training with others yields better results and makes the journey more enjoyable.
